Fernando Amado Couto is the Chief Executive Officer at Portos do Norte, SA with responsibility for the management of terminals and movement of all types of cargo in the Nacala Port.
Prior to the incorporation of Portos do Norte,SA,, Fernando Amado Couto worked from 1976 to 1988 for the Ministry of Transports and Communications with different roles and in 1980 he formed Manica Freight Services Moçambique, SARL.
He has played various job roles at several companies, including since the early 90s being the director of STAM (Sociede Terminal de Açúcar de Maputo, Lda) a project in which the sugar industries of Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland and Zimbabwe came together to form a regional sugar export facility in the Port of Maputo, In the early 2000s he became the founder and manager of a Stevedoring company named Terminais do Norte in Nacala; he is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Manica Freight Services Moçambique, SARL and the CEO of Manica Moçambique Terminais and Consorcio Matola Stevedoring an entity responsible for all imports and exports of Mozal, an aluminium smelter joint project in Mozambique.
Fernando Amado Couto received a postgraduate degree in Business Administration from Cape Town other qualifications include courses in the early 80s in London and Lisbon in the area of Maritime Law, and Marine Insurance.
Fernando Amado Couto was honored with the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2008 and 2009 for his contributions to the shipping and transport, tourism and real estate industry).
