Durban takes centre stage in rail maintenance and rehabilitation

Posted in Press releases

Durban will soon be host to Africa’s only rail maintenance and rehabilitation forum and the
largest gathering of African transport professionals – both in rail and in maritime. The second
annual African Rail Evolution forum, co-located with the 6th annual African Ports Evolution
forum and Kwazulu-Natal Export Week will take place next week 17-18 October.

Says Programme Director, Nico Loretz: “The forum celebrates Transport Month with a week’s
programme, packed with an unbeatable line-up of thought-leaders in Africa’s transport sector.
Challenges faced by Africa’s rail fraternity will be addressed with case studies and in-depth
panel discussions that will seek to find workable solutions to overcome an aged and under
maintained rail eco-system.”

The programme features case studies and panellists from leading rail operators, including
Zambia Railways (ZRL), Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA), Transnet Freight Rail,
National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ), Botswana Railways, Gautrain, and PRASA to name but
a few.

New additions to this year’s programme is an AmstedReelin sponsored post-event guided plant
tour to the most technologically advanced bearing facility in the world - located at Dube
Tradeport and workshops on the exhibition floor. Forum delegates and visitors will be able to
register for the plant tour at no cost and the workshops are free to attend.
